Hi, can you tell me what kind of plug adapter I will need in Cuba please?
Angela
Hi Angela,
Having been going to Cuba for the best part of 20 years I would suggest you take both the American flat 2 pin and the European round 2 pin adaptors.
A lot of the hotels go back a good few years and the sockets in the living/sleeping area will usually be the American ones but where there has been some modernisation over the years, this will usually be in the bathroom, you will often find European sockets. You will thus often find both sockets in the same room!
In the living/sleeping area I have often found the sockets to be not that tight so that when you add the weight of your plug and adaptor to the socket they do not connect very well. I usually improvise with something to take the weight & that usually works ok. If there is a European socket then I have found that this is much more efficient.
As a photographer I am forever re-charging batteries & the European socket is preferred - where there is one.
Most rooms are accessed via a credit card style reader that also works the electricity. I say this but sometimes they seem to only work the lights and the other power stays on when you leave the room! The moral is that a battery etc charging when you are in the room may not charge when you take the card out of the slot. However you should not have a problem in getting a second card from reception to leave in the electric slot when you go out for dinner etc.
Cuba is wonderful - enjoy & I remember when it was not so much whether the adaptor worked as whether there was any electricity at all.
just go with the flow...
