I agree with the others. There is a fair bit of walking, but on most days you can take it at your own pace. The walk to the top of the buddha is the most demanding but it is entirely optional. You get to see the Buddha from the boat, so the only reason to go to the top is for the experience of standing next to the giant head and the view. There are also a number of temples, but you will see plenty others on other days. Other than that the Great Wall involves a fair bit of walking uphill.

Our group had an age range of fifties to eighties, and no one had any problems with the walking. Plenty of time to rest on the coach and in the hotel.

I put together a short video of my trip.

Hi Nicki. I cant say I'm that excited at the moment!! More bit anxious. I am an older member!!! However I went with Just You last year and the group experience really inspired me to travel more!!! See you on the other side!!!

Hi Janet,

I did this tour two years ago and loved it.  There is quite a lot of walking involved, especially the day you visit the Forbidden City - our guide had a pedometer and told us we'd walked over four miles that afternoon!

All the best,

Bob

Hello Bob. I have just read your review. It was very inspiring and informative too.  I feel reassured about the walking - no mountain climbing!! I agree some more Panda time sounds wonderful!!  Thank you again.

I am going in October and I am counting the months with excitement and some trepidation so your review was very reassuring!!

All the best

Janet

Hi Janet

I'm also going in October and ridiculously excited. Are you on the 7th Oct departure?

Only 18 weeks to wait!!

Look forward to meeting you if you are going on the 7th, if not have a great trip.

Lots and lots of walking and very early starts, but wouldn't get half done if didn't do this, was certainly worth it.
I went in October, so the  weather  was  cooler. All of group climbed up to the top using the less steep inner steps. It's a pleasant walk. There are plenty  of  benches to rest on on the way up.  The view from the top is worth the climb.
Hi Janet,

Many thanks for your kind words!  There was a little walking on slopes and steps at the Great Wall, but if you follow the directions you're given you should be fine - a couple of folks on our group went their own way and had a slightly hair raising journey back down!  Also when you go to see the Giant Buddha at Leshan you'll be given the opportunity to climb up to the top which would involve hundreds of steps.  No one did this on our tour but I gather from reading other reviews of this tour over the years that generally some do.  It was hot and humid that day so we all decided against it and had a leisurely lunch instead!

Have a brilliant time,

Bob

Hi janetstanhope1,

We do recommend that a moderate level of fitness is required as you will be walking a fair distance, due to the amount of sightseeing included. As stated in the brochure, we advise that this tour is not suitable for people with limited mobility.

I hope this helps.

Kindest regards,

Monty
