Hi Toni

I get my insurance from Insure and Go and they are very reasonable. Last year I bought annual worldwide (excluding USA and the Caribbean) and it only cost me £64.03. I always make sure that there is enough medical cover, which includes repatriation if required as the costs can be astronomical whilst abroad. I used to get insurance individual for each trip, but the annual one worked out cheaper and it will also cover my Mexico, Belize and Guatemala trip next year before I have to renew. So all in all it covered 4 long haul trips - a bargain.

I am glad you have been able to book your trip. You are right no one knows what is around the corner. I have always lived for today and try to be positive and keep on smiling no matter what. This is what got me through the gruelling treatment. Glad to know that you too are doing well. Stay well and healthy.

Jaya

Pleased to hear you can now book.

You will love Borneo. Our first sighting of a wild orangutan made my heart beat faster.

Then Pygmy elephants at Kinabatangan. Wow !

Great news.

So, I recieved the phone call and I am cleared for travel. It is to do with mobility, which is perfectly understandable. She says I should never have been asked about my medication. They are holding my booking until someone calls me to take my deposit.

Hugely relieved and excited!

So glad all has been sorted out for you, now go and enjoy your holiday...well done to you for your recovery...

Cindy

We never know what's around the corner, do we Jaya? I hope you remain well for many more holidays.

I was quite happy to remove cover for cancer from any policy, but still had major problems with some companies until I found insurancewith.com, who are brilliant. They cover me for everything and do not charge a great deal (in my opinion, anyway)

Anyway ....... yay!!! I have now paid my deposit so Borneo is set on my agenda for this time next year.

Hi Toni

I have had cancer treatment twice in 3 years and have not been asked any questions by Just You. The travel insurance company asks questions about health and the option of taking out cancer cover is up to the individual. You do not have to take it if you don't want to. I don't take extra cancer cover as I am very positive that it is not going to come back - fingers crossed, though no one can predict the future. After my first treatment was successful, I went ahead and booked two holidays with Just You, but soon after the cancer came back and I had to cancel. Just You were brilliant and gave me vouchers in lieu of the deposit paid so in actual fact I did not lose any money. I used the vouchers last year.

Jaya.

Hi Sarah and Cindy. I have mentioned my cancer diagnosis when booking before and this time, as usual, I have politely declined the JY offer of insurance because I have found a brilliant company that doesn't charge and arm and a leg to cover me. This is my first long haul since my treatment and subsequent all-clear status, although I have now done 7 or is it 8 European JY trips. It is also the first time anyone has ever picked up on the cancer thing.

I also got the special assistance question, and that makes sense I I have heard from some TMs, and also seen for myself, about people travelling who really are in no fit state to do the excursions despite the disclaimer on the website / brochure about the level of walking you really ought to be able to cope with for any specific holiday.I have no problem with that question, but I just don't get why I have to speak to a medical screening person from JY when I have made it perfectly clear that I do not want their insurance and that I understand the level of fitness required and declared myself able to cope.

We shall see. I am still waiting for a phone call!

Toni

Toni

That's very strange. I have never been asked about my medical history when I book long haul tours .

JY, is this new policy ?

SarahS I do agree with you about people unfit for the rigours of the tour though .

That's what JY should be checking !

Congratulations by the way Toni on your recovery.

A friend I used to travel with on JY tours travelled on many JY tours after having had breast cancer and had no trouble getting insurance that was through her bank. I know of others that post on here that have had cancer and health issues but go with JY. So I don't know why JY are showing concern with your booking will be interesting to hear the outcome.
