Thanks Sylvia, could I ask for any tips for items to take aside from the usual, suncream, insect repellant, hat. Was there anything you didn't take which you wish you had? Were there many opportunities to dress up in the evenings?
Sally
Hi Sally
Things to take? You should definitely take all meds and toiletries you need. And, things for use in the public conveniences because some of them are lacking in many things, even soap and water! So ensure you have ample supply of toilet tissue, sanitiser, wipes etc. Our tour gave away our toiletries from the hotel and I had bought a supply of toothpaste and brushes, pens, pencils etc for the children. But if you do give things to the locals, give it to those who do not ask as they appreciate more than the career beggar. And don't forget the local guide and driver who are less well off than us.
Dressing up in the evening? You'll have the odd occasion where you might want to dress up. Our TM (Filomena Lima) organised a visit to a theatre in Camaguey to watch children doing ballet - cute. A couple of ladies were keen to see opera or whatever was on in Havana, I think. If you visit Tropicana Nightclub and of course the farewell dinner you can put your glad rags on!
The obvious advice is do not wear too much (or any jewellery) as we were advised by our TM that two ladies got mugged on a previous tour.
Hope this helps.
Sylvia
