I've had a mix of local and british, no complaints from me about any of them and i'm in double figureswith my JY holidays now.

I've only ever had one bad (and i mean bad) tour manager but must stress that was with a different company not JY.

I agree Jaya. As long as TMs are upto the job, it doesn't matter where they come from. That said the worst TM I've met was a local girl in Prague on my first JY trip. I didn't realise until I went on other trips just how far she fell below the normal JY standard.
What does it matter whether the TM is local or from the UK as long as they are knowledgeable and provide a good service!

I think that Croatia is the only place where I haven't had a British TM, although a couple of the Tour Managers that I have had lived in Spain.
When I did the Austrian lakes tour the tour manager lived out there so meet us at the destination airport, like others say Jonathon Tuscany Highlights lives out there so to joined us at destination airport, Kenya tour manager flew out with us, but other than hold our hand?!?! All the said stuff that went on out there the local somak reps took care of things

I've been on 3 holidays where the TM wasn't UK based - one in Tuscany, where the TM was Scottish/Italian living in Rome, one in Madeira where an Italian TM was drafted in at the last minute, and one in Calabria with an Australian/Austrian TM who does several JY holidays. The first and third were both very good, the middle one not.

Hi Fleurbyfleur,

No, it is not a policy to only use UK Tour Managers. We have a number of holidays where our Tour Managers live in the country. Two that I can name off the top of my head are Croatia and Peru where we often use local Tour Managers.

Kindest regards,

Julia

I've done 2 tours with JY and on both tours we had a UK Tour Manager. Is this a JY policy? Is there any particular reason that we don't use managers who live in the country that we're visiting?
