The information included in your documentation, is the advice we have been given. I have checked this with my colleague in our consular services department who has advised:
"This is correct, you should carry your passport at all times. The police have the right to arrest you if you can’t show your passport & detain you until they can confirm your identity! Hotels may also require passport details or a copy of your passport."

Is says in the paperwork that you have to carry your passport around with you as you may be asked for your ID at any time. I have been to Spain before and never heard of this and would be worried that it might get lost or stolen. I usually put my passport in the hotel safe but take a photocopy with me. Please advise?
