Hello Mick,

Been to House of Blues in Orlando , ended up seeing Olly Murs of all people with a local boy band, lots of screaming teenagers :P

Love Robert Cray, seen him a few years ago- great concert.

That last comment about the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale confused me as I have been to one in Ferriday, Louisiana. Also visited a cotton plantation nearby.

Love BB Kings Club on Beale Street and would like to see House of Blues on Decator Street, New Orleans.

House of the Blues is a chain and in a few cities, name can be decieving as it caters for all types of music not just Blues, mainly big touring acts but nearer time may be worth checking if anyone playing while we are there.

Also is a HOTB in Chicago and saw Robert Cray play it a few years back (its close to our hotel).

Forgot to mention on the last post about Delta Blues Museum, saw some years ago someone on a Blues trail and he poured beer onto a grave to toast them. Told my girls, every year we go to their Dad's grave and drink Asti Spumante giving him some too.

Another idea I picked up in Rio was throwing flowers into the sea on NYE for departed loved ones. Now when I am near the sea, I will throw in a flower. One child in Devon did ask her father why was I throwing flowers in the sea :P

Less than 5 months I've a feeling its gonna be a cracking trip.

Wish we were stopping at Clarksdale though (hint Julia), couple of museums would have loved to have visited :-

Given the time and distances suspect we'll be going dwn the Interstate rather than the actual 61, it runs sort of parallel but misses Clarksdale by about 10 miles.

Dorsetjoy,

Have been to the Green Mill a few years back and agree its good and very close to the Lawrence stop on the red line if i remember correctly. Did anyone tell you its a place Al Capone visited on a regular basis back in the day.

There are a few other good music Clubs close to the hotel (walkable) that i'm considering.

Which night did you visit Kingston Mines as thats a included excurrsion was it the tuesday as planned ?

Did you visit the smaller Blues Club (B.L.U.E.S.) over the road from Kingston Mines ?

Its really tiny but gets some of Chicagos top acts when they are not touring, will check schedule before i go.

Mick

Hi - Just returned from the America's Heart & Soul holiday. An unbelievable music experience. The music at Kingston Mines was great - even the moving from one room to another was "interesting". People got up to dance and the guitarist joined them whilst still playing. Another great venue was Green Mill Cocktail Lounge. Have to use the train to get there and pay to get in but well worth it. It is literally 100 yards from the station so don't do the same as my group and get a taxi from the station - got charged $9 to drive us the 100 yards.
Hello Mick,

I remember AA used to go from Birmingham to Chicago as my late husband used to take that flight , change for Phoenix many moons ago. It will be interesting to see O'Hare for the first time.

My eldest daughter Sarah is now driving up from New Orleans to Memphis. So jealous- 10 months tomorrow- woo hoo. I am in for a club on the first night :)

Hi Mick,

Depends on flight times for stay in hotel. I have caught the bus up from Fareham when I went on the Austrian trip in September.

Hope we go from Terminal 5 as that was great. So many shops!

See you next year and hope you had a great time at Hinkley tonight.

Jan.

Hi Jan,

I know nothing is final but the JY website states its the 12-50 flight with American Airlines, if its with them will be terminal 3 I think.

However checking flight times on the Heathrow website the time is correct for other departures earlier in the year but there isn't a 12-50 in November. Think it is 13-15 but to be honest would prefer a morning flight to gives time for a power nap before going out that night. Will find a decent place walkable from the hotel for those interested.

Even better if we could get the BA flight and I claim Avios points and you would get your term 5 wish (are you listening JY).

Trouble is don't want to fight the Monday morning traffic so I'll get a flight/hotel deal, its similar price to parking only anyway.

Mick
