Air China will be flying to both airports (from 2 May) for the foreseeable future, probably because there is a lot of demand for this route and they can't get as many slots as they would like at Heathrow.

We will continue to use their Heathrow flights in 2012 then move toward using the Gatwick service in 2013 - so there won't be any changes to China holidays departing any time soon.

Just read the online version of The Telegraph and Air China have signed an agreement with Gatwick to service Beijing from there. It does not say when this will happen, but, I suspect that it would not take long for the service to start. Just wondering if Just You have any inkling of when it would start. I do not think that Air China would use both Heathrow and Gatwick.
