Hello BondensbabeI don't know if this info is any use to you but the train service in midweek from St Pancras to Gatwick actually starts at Bedford and continues past Gatwick to terminate at Brighton. It is a fairly frequent service and I find it handy when I come into the UK. Unfortunately it does not run at the moment at week-ends.PeterThanks again Olly. And Peter that is a VERY viable option. My flights are both on a Tuesday so that's great! Anything to avoid London! Thank you! Hello Bondensbabe If you look on trainline.com they have advance any time returns priced at £37.10 from Bedford to Gatwick.Peter

Hi Peter. Sorry I havent replied earlier but I have been on a short city break to Liverpool whilst I was having a new bathroom fitted! Before I went I checked on Trainline and found the same thing. It's only marginally more expensive altogether than National Express and will cut nearly 2 hours off my journey each way. Thanks again.
I agree with Peter - the through service is very useful. I would just add that you should change for the Gatwick train at St Pancras rather than Bedford to avoid stopping at lots of stations on the way into London. The East Midlands train will only call at Luton.
Kind regards

I'm glad the idea was helpful. Those cheaper train tickets can sell out quite fast so don't wait too long if you do want to go by rail.
Kind regards,
Hi BondensbabeTrains can be very expensive. http://www.eastmidlandstrains.co.uk/Pages/default.aspx - depending on what time you want to travel of course. Nottingham to London prices start at about £12 for a single, so you might be able to shop around a bit and book the St Pancras-Gatwick part separately. But my guess is that National Express would be cheaper.Kind regardsOlly, your editor

Thanks for the good advice Olly. I've had a look at the East Midlands Train site and booking through off peak trains it works out at only about £10 more expensive that National Express advertised prices. And a lot quicker too providrd the Gatwick to Pancras trains behave themselves. National Express have not improved their service to Nottingham by having to change in London on so many of the services now. It can take over 5 hours now!
Anyway plenty of time to sort it all out, and I will ring Customer Support to check on the National Express price.
Thanks again for the hint.

Thanks Olly. I will, just to check. Since National Express suspended the Funfares to the airports it has got very expenive so if anything helps! Train is even more expensive incidentally. Well over £100 return from Nottingham to Gatwick.
