Hi I am also going Feb 2nd, are malaria tabs necessary, I had not thought of them Mary

Mary I can't believe you don't know about taking malaria tablets. These are essential on this trip. Have you had any vaccinations?

If you are doing the add on for Victoria Falls then you need a yellow fever jab unless you get an exemption letter from your GP due to your age.

You need to get to your GP fast. There should also be something in the holiday information sent to you about 2 weeks before your departure.

Mike

Hi Mary

February is one of the months when the mosquitos are biting. In Kruger Nat.Park it is a Malaria Zone so the guide books,Doctors etc advise you to take Malaria Tablets and to use 50% DEET repellent.I am going to take Malarone, which one of the best. You will need to get a private prescription from the Doctor. You take them 2 days before entering the malaria zone, continuing them until 7 days after you return home.

Look forward to seeing you 0n the 2nd.Lotty

Hi Mary, I'd get myself to a doctor asap!! You will need to take malaria tablets from Port Elizabeth onwards, as Swaziland and Kruger are risk areas. Malarone is usually prescribed, take it after food. I didn't suffer any side effects, neither did anyone else on the trip. Have a fantastic time, it is the holiday of a lifetime!

Cheers,

Bob

Hi Lotty

I did this trip in February last year, and we did not need any nets but do get a good mosquito repellant. Also, don't forget that you will need anti-malaria pills for Kruger - suggest Malarone - cheapest place to get them is online at travelpharm.com - you send them the prescription from your GP and they send you the pills. Have a great time. If you are doing the Zambia extension I would thoroughly recommend the day trip to Botswana.

Hi Lotty,

I did this holiday last September/October and can confirm none of the places we stayed at provided any nets at that time of year.

I took and would recommend a plug in mosquito repellent in your room and a good spray repellent for yourself. I used mosiguard which was very effective and I know I may have been lucky but I didn't get biten the whole holiday. In addition I wore mosquito repellent wrist bands on both arms for the whole holiday. I changed them regularly about every 4 days. They are readily available on Amazon and cheap to buy.

Don't forget your South African plug adapter if you do take a plug in repellent.

By the way it was a wonderful holiday so just enjoy it and forget about the mosquito's.

Mike

Hi Mike

Thanks for you reply,I am well stocked on all the DEET products now-sprays, armbands plug ins.Adapters and Cash Passports are at the ready so I am now ready to roll on what I am hoping to be another Just You Miracle Wonderful Holiday.

Kind regards Lotty

Hi there are no nets in any of the hotels, but you do not need them. Keep the air con turned up and spray yourself liberally with DEET and you should be fine! You will need to do this from Swaziland onwards.

Best wishes,

Bob

Thank you for your reply I am well stocked up with DEET so am now looking forward to the trip.

Regards

Lotty if you have air con you shouldn't need a net. As Olly says take a good repellent too. For malaria areas use a repellent containing 30-40 % DEET. I did this trip a couple of years ago, excellent time. By the way, I wasn't bitten at all !
