Hi Olly,

Thank you for your reply. It is a good idea to wear the boots for the journey!

Hi Bridget

I think it would be a good idea to take walking boots on this tour (more than most) as you will be walking on some fairly difficult ground - at Machu Picchu there are quite a few high steps and a steep gradient, and I expect the walking in the Amazon will be fairly uneven too. When I went to Peru I was grateful to have some good support for my ankles.

If you are concerned about luggage space, you could consider wearing your walking boots on the flight out, so they wouldn't be part of your luggage allowance.

Kind regards,

Olly, your editor

Hi Olly,

For the Kenya trip last year we were advised to take stout walking shoes/boots and warm socks. It turned out that we didn't need either of these items which unnecessarily took up a lot of luggage space. How much treking is involved with the Peru/Amazon trip and exactly what type of foot wear will be needed? Also, could you please tell me the name of the rain forrest lodge we will be staying in as it will be fun to look it up on the internet.

Many thanks!! 😃
