Zippy,

as a Tour Manager I have to say that few if any hotels will offer Gluten free bread and other products. Actually on 14 years working in the middle east, USA, China and europe I have never had one yet. Most Coeliac/Gluten free guests bring their own bread and naturally the hotels will toast it for you at breakfast. Bear in mind in smaller villages, resorts these sort of products have to be sourced from quite a distance away making it logistically and costwise dificult for hotels to obtain. My advice is to take a loaf with you and on days when you visit larger cities you will be able to stock up in europe. In Asia note that bread is made in the hotels or sourced from specialist bakeries as its not a regular part of an asian diet. Despite that all other meals our restaurants and hotels do endeavour to create interesting meals and sauces that contain thickening agents that do not contain wheat flour so do not let this put you off seeing the world!!

Hi Zippy

Of those three countries, the US would probably be easiest for you in terms of food allergy awareness and product labelling in shops. However, it would be a shame to rule out the fascinating civilisations of China and Thailand, so it's a difficult decision.

Kind regards,

Olly, your editor

Hi Cindy

Thanks for the advice,I have been looking at snacks available that are gluten free, there seem to be a lot out there.

I am just waiting to see if I can get the time off work then I will be booking

It depends to some degree on where you are going - countries such as the US will be a lot more aware of food allergy issues, whereas poorer countries might not be.

But if you can let our Holiday Advisors know by calling us on 0844 567 8838 (if you haven't already), we will do our best to plan ahead for you.

It's a good idea to pack a few gluten-free snacks in case there are any instances where no suitable food is available.

Hi Olly,

Thanks, I am looking at either China,Thailand or USA, cant decide which one at the moment,

I will let the holiday advisors know when I book.

Zippy

I know it is not the same but I am a vegatarian, I have always managed OK on the tours, make sure it is on your records so the flight meals wll be booked for you, if you have not mentioned ring the office up and they can add this information onto your booking. I also make sure I have snack and pasta type meals and cup a soups I can just add boiling water to if I cant sort something out. With me I think the policy from JY is they try to sort me out but they cannot garantee that they can, so thats why I take some meals with me.

Good Luck

Cindy

Hi, I have just recently been diagnosed as having a gluten intolerence, would the hotels that provide a continental breakfast be able to provide an alternative?
