I don't think it will be worth you changing your money into dollars and then into yuan, as you will have to pay commission twice. I would take some Sterling with you and change it if needed. If you don't use it, you won't have to change it again when you get home.

Sorry to bother you again but as suggested I am taking a mixture of yuans, cash and an ATM card which would be the best cash for a good exchange rate in China american dollars or sterling. Many thanks, Beatie.
