Not sure if you've got your travel pack yet, but in that it does say to take an overnight bag so I would definitely take one with you...I will be!

I wasn't intending to take much of a bag on the plane with me just a large handbag so it would be useful to know if it is still advisable to just take a small bag to Chengde.Is there anyone who has been on this trip to China recently who could advise?

If Daniel advises doing that, I would certainly do so as he is a real authority on travelling in China.

I imagine you will be taking hand luggage on to the plane with you anyway, so perhaps this bag could double up as your overnight bag too?

I have just been reading some old posts by Daniel (who I gather is a very experienced guide) and it would seem that last year it was reccommeneded to take an overnight bag to Chengde and that suitcases would be left in Beijing. please could you tell me if this advice still applies?
