Just to let you know that after 2 days continuously trying to get onto the ESTA website eventually succeeded yesterday and have had approval for travel on 4 Oct on the America's Golden West tour. Thanks for all your help.

Thanks for your reply. I did complete the ESTA form on the correct website but I haven't heard if it my payment went through or not. Do you know how I find out whether my application has gone through? I did complete another form just in case the original hadn't gone through, but this is not acceptable as it just comes up in Red that my Passport number has already been used (which, of course, it has as it's mine). Does this mean that my application has been received by them as I haven't had any confirmation by email. What usually happens after you submit the ESTA form?

https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov  so hopefully this is the one you used.

If so, it sounds like your submission was made successfully. It may be that the ESTA website was struggling to run smoothly because so many people were trying to register before the £9 charge began.

I haven't been to the US since ESTA began but I believe you can log in again and check your application's progress. You could have another look today or tomorrow and try to log in. If you did just miss the deadline, you may also find out how to pay the £9 fee.

Please help me with regard to the above form. It has taken me days to find the correct website for this form after reaching only USA sites. I tried today again and finally found it and completed it, I now have my application number. However, when I went to make payment they said there was an error on the site so I tried again and completed the form but when I pressed the submit button it said that an application had already been made with my passport number etc. My question is, how do I now pay for this ESTA within the 7 day period requested. I'm at my wits end having spent nearly all day yesterday whilst it was still free trying to apply without success.
